PGS

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGS)

Preimplantation genetic testing (PGS) offers an alternative for these couples, where the genetic test is performed on the embryos before transfer (Preimplantation embryo). In PGS, couples go through routine IVF/ICSI procedures to generate embryos in vitro, the day-5 embryos (Blastocyst) are biopsied, and the genetic test is performed on the biopsied cells. Later normal embryo is transferred. Abnormal embryos usually destroy depends on mosaicism. But that doesn’t mean that all couple need PGS. PGS should be reserved for few couples with certain clinical conditions.

Who needs PGS?

How is PGS Done?

What are the Disadvantages of PGS?

Not many standard large research studies available for the use of PGS for routiene clinical practice. That’s why PGS use should be limited for indicated patient only. More recently some research has proposed the possibility of transferring some types of mosaic embryo (Abnormal ) with the result of healthy newborn. These incidences insist us to rethink that are we destroying normal embryos thinking that they are abnormal.
